Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist Rep. Leila de Lima on Tuesday urged the public to remain alert as attempts surface to obscure the truth and derail accountability in the flood control scandal.
“Dapat managot ang lahat ng sangkot. Alam naman natin: Guilty parties have the propensity to obfuscate, mislead and confuse the truth seekers, including the public, just to evade accountability,” de Lima said.
She emphasized that even partial truths or information from questionable sources must go through legal processes: “Let us not be easily swayed, deluded, or manipulated… unless these whistleblowers and witnesses… submit themselves to the regular fora and legal processes of accountability.”
De Lima renewed her push for the swift passage of the proposed Independent Commission Against Infrastructure Corruption (ICAIC) and other reforms to curb corruption, dismantle political dynasties, and strengthen the electoral system.
“Sa ating pagbabantay at pakikilahok… dapat na manatiling mapanuri at alerto ang taumbayan, lalo na sa mga panawagan at pagkilos na nagsusulong lang ng propaganda at pansariling agenda,” she said.
The lawmaker stressed unity and truth as the foundation for holding corrupt officials accountable: “Sa pagpapanagot sa mga kurakot, sandalan natin ang katotohanan. Panigan natin ang Saligang Batas. Ipanalo natin ang taumbayan.”
