Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Party-List Representative Leila de Lima has weighed in on the Senate’s move to request the International Criminal Court (ICC) to place former President Rodrigo Duterte under house arrest for humanitarian consideration.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, October 2, 2025, De Lima said the Senate should have instead voted on the country’s return as a member of the ICC.
“Sana ang pinagbotohan na ay pagbabalik ng Pilipinas bilang member ng ICC,” De Lima wrote.
She added that the nation appears to be moving backwards.
“Kaso paatras pa tayo,” she concluded.
Several netizens agreed with De Lima’s sentiment, saying the country is facing more pressing problems that should have been prioritized instead of the Senate’s vote.
It may be recalled that the voting took place during the Senate’s plenary session on October 1, where fifteen (15) senators voted in favor of the resolution, three (3) voted against, two (2) abstained, and four (4) were absent.
