The Department of Education (DepEd) has issued an advisory allowing the implementation of preventive class suspensions to ensure the safety of students, teachers, and school personnel amid disasters and health concerns.
In its latest Facebook post on Monday, October 13, DepEd said regional and school division offices may enforce the suspension as part of disaster preparedness measures.
“Sa panahon ng preventive suspension, ipinatutupad ang mga alternatibong paraan ng pag-aaral upang tuloy pa rin ang edukasyon habang prayoridad ang kaligtasan ng lahat,” DepEd said.
The agency also called for the cooperation of parents, teachers, and local government units in implementing the initiative.
Earlier, DepEd-National Capital Region (NCR) suspended face-to-face classes in public schools across Metro Manila from October 13 to 14 due to safety concerns.
The class suspensions come as the country faces a rise in influenza-like illnesses and a series of earthquakes recorded in various regions over the past weeks.
In Laguna, Governor Sol Aragones also suspended classes at all levels in both public and private schools from October 14 until the end of the month to allow the provincial government to inspect school infrastructures following recent strong earthquakes.
