The Department of Education (DepEd) clarified that the government’s upcoming four-day workweek will apply only to DepEd offices, not to classes in public schools nationwide.
“I don’t believe so, but the DepEd offices are covered,” Education Secretary Sonny Angara said, as reported by the Philippine Star.
The announcement follows President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive for selected executive branch agencies to adopt a four-day workweek starting March 9, aimed at conserving energy and preparing for potential fuel price increases due to tensions in the Middle East.
Separately, Angara issued guidance for public schools to hold simple yet meaningful graduation and moving-up ceremonies to mark the end of the school year.
