DILG MONITORS ZALDY CO AFTER WARRANT OF ARREST ISSUED

The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) is keeping an eye on former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co following the issuance of a warrant of arrest against him and 17 others.

According to DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Co was last seen in Japan.

They reportedly have what is called a Blue Notice from the International Criminal Police Organization, or Interpol, to gather information on a person of interest in a criminal investigation, including their location or activities.

“Ang last known… few days ago nasa Japan siya,” Remulla said in a radio interview.

Remulla added that while they currently have no information on Co’s whereabouts, his previous locations include the United States, Europe, Singapore, Spain, Portugal, and most recently Japan.

He also noted that since a case has already been filed against Co, the government will apply for a Red Notice with Interpol to have the former lawmaker arrested or extradited.

“Hindi kami maiisahan dito. As long as we have the legal authority, kukunin namin siya,” Remulla said.

Meanwhile, the DILG also plans to request the Department of Foreign Affairs to cancel the former congressman’s passport.

It is recalled that Co left for the United States in September for alleged medical treatment. However, Co claimed that he is not returning to the Philippines due to alleged threats to his life.
