The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) has ordered all elective and appointive local officials to suspend foreign travel from November 9 to 15, 2025, as Super Typhoon Uwan poses a serious threat to the Philippines.
In a memorandum, DILG Secretary Jonvic Remulla said the move ensures that governors, mayors, and barangay captains remain on-site to oversee pre-disaster preparations, emergency response, and recovery efforts.
The directive follows President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s instructions and the state of national calamity declaration.
The DILG reminded officials that under the Local Government Code and Republic Act No. 10121, they chair their respective Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils (LDRRMCs) and must be physically present during all disaster phases.
Local governments were also told to assist affected communities, reactivate Local Price Coordinating Councils to prevent profiteering, and coordinate closely with DRRMCs and DILG field offices for unified action.
“All DILG Regional Directors have been tasked to ensure full compliance,” the agency said, stressing that visible and hands-on leadership is vital to protect communities and speed up recovery.
