Lawmakers on Wednesday grilled Sarah Discaya, a businesswoman who owns several construction firms allegedly among President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s so-called “Top 15” contractors cornering billions worth of flood control projects nationwide.
At the second hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee, chaired by Deputy Majority Leader Rodante Marcoleta, Discaya claimed that the viral interview circulating online was “spliced” or “edited.” The video, originally aired on the YouTube channel of veteran news anchor Julius Babao, showed her admitting that their fortunes rose after becoming contractors for the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
“I think so sir, kasi I did mention that I was doing local government (works) as well as private po,” she told Senate Minority Leader Tito Sotto, when asked if she believed the viral clip had been edited.
Discaya also denied reports that her family owned over 40 luxury cars, insisting the number was only 28.
She maintained that her companies did not exploit Filipinos through government contracts, stressing that in her 23 years in the construction industry, it was possible to earn profit in a “legitimate” way.
