DOH LAUNCHES “TRANGKASO BYE-BYE” CAMPAIGN AMID FLU SEASON

The Department of Health (DOH) has launched its “Trangkaso Bye-bye” campaign on Tuesday, October 21, to educate the public on flu prevention and awareness.

In a post on its official Facebook page, the DOH clarified that there is no flu outbreak, but the country is currently within the flu season, which typically spans from the rainy months beginning in June until the shift to the Amihan monsoon season.

According to the agency’s latest surveillance data, 6,457 cases of Influenza-Like Illness (ILI) were recorded from September 28 to October 11, marking a 25% decrease compared to 8,628 cases during the same period in 2024.

To help curb the spread of the flu, the DOH reminded the public to observe the following preventive measures:

  • Wash hands regularly.
  • Stay home and get adequate rest when feeling sick.
  • Wear a face mask in public or crowded areas.
  • Avoid sharing food and personal items.
  • Maintain proper ventilation indoors.
  • Eat nutritious food, especially fruits and vegetables.

DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa also clarified that the current rise in flu-like cases is expected during this time of year, emphasizing that there is no outbreak.

“Pagdating ng tag-ulan talagang panahon ‘yan ng flu-like symptoms,” Herbosa said.

Nevertheless, he assured that the DOH continues to monitor ILI cases nationwide to ensure timely response and public safety.
