DOJ CONFIRMS CRIMINAL COMPLAINTS VS. REP. MARCY TEODORO FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

The Department of Justice (DOJ) confirmed Thursday that two criminal complaints for acts of lasciviousness and sexual assault have been filed against Marikina 1st District Rep. Marcy Teodoro before the National Prosecution Service (NPS).

DOJ spokesperson Assistant Secretary Mico Clavano said the complainants are female police officers who previously served as Teodoro’s close-in security at separate times.

In line with Department Circular No. 20 (2023), Clavano explained that the cases will undergo case build-up and legal review to determine if there is sufficient evidence before any preliminary investigation begins.

“This ensures that any action, if warranted, will rest on a complete and substantiated record,” he said, assuring that Teodoro “will be afforded full due process.”

The identities of the complainants were withheld for security and privacy reasons. According to the Marikina City Police Office, the officers have since been reassigned to the Philippine National Police (PNP) national headquarters at Camp Crame for their protection.

“The Marikina City Police fully respects due process and upholds the rule of law,” said Marikina Police chief Col. Michael Astrera.

Teodoro has denied the allegations, dismissing them as fabricated and politically driven.

“Ang mga akusasyon sa akin ay malisyoso at hindi totoo. Ang kanilang mga alegasyon ay walang sapat na basehan at gawa-gawa lamang na ang intensyon ay sirain ang aking reputasyon,” he said.

“Mukhang politically motivated attack laban sa akin. May mga trumatrabahong pwersa,” he added.

The former Marikina mayor said he has yet to formally receive a copy of the complaints.

Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police’s Women and Children Protection Center (WCPC) said it has been coordinating with the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) regarding the matter.

“On this case, we are still conducting an investigation. The WCPC is currently coordinating doon sa CIDG which handled this case,” WCPC spokesperson Major Shari Vanneza Deseo told reporters.

“Kung wala pa pong whatever action na ginawa nila, kung wala pa pong naisasampa na case, we can file a case about that,” she added.
