DOJ FILES PLUNDER CASE VS ZALDY CO

The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Monday confirmed it has filed a plunder case against former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co for his alleged involvement in anomalous flood control projects.

“Then we have one additional case for plunder specifically against former representative Elizaldy Co,” DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez told reporters, without disclosing further details.

Co has been tagged as a central figure in the controversy after leaving the country amid investigations into questionable budget insertions and infrastructure irregularities.

He has been linked to Sunwest Construction and Development Corp. and Hi-Tone Construction & Development Corporation, two contractors that secured about ₱100 billion worth of Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) projects under the Marcos administration.

Last November, the DPWH and the Independent Commission for Infrastructure recommended plunder, graft, and direct bribery charges against Co and former House Speaker Martin Romualdez in connection with alleged flood control anomalies.

The DOJ’s filing marks a significant step in the widening probe into corruption tied to infrastructure spending.
