The Department of Justice has filed four counts of tax evasion against government contractor Sarah Discaya, citing alleged violations of Sections 254 and 255 of the National Internal Revenue Code for taxable years 2020 and 2021.
DOJ spokesperson Polo Martinez confirmed that the case information was submitted to the Court of Tax Appeals (CTA) on February 3, which has jurisdiction over the offenses.
Martinez noted that Discaya’s husband, fellow contractor Curlee Discaya, filed a motion for reconsideration to defer the filing, prompting prosecutors to seek the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s comment. This keeps the preliminary investigation technically ongoing.
Prosecutor General Richard Fadullon said the DOJ expects resolution of the matter in the coming weeks.
Apart from the tax case, Sarah Discaya also faces graft and malversation charges tied to the alleged flood control anomaly, to which she has entered a plea of not guilty.
