DOTr OFFERS FREE RIDES AMID TWO-DAY TRANSPORT STRIKE

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) once again provided free rides on Thursday and Friday, March 26–27, for commuters potentially affected by a two-day transport strike.

DOTr said it deployed buses in coordination with the Office of the President, Department of Energy, Philippine Coast Guard, and Philippine National Police from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to assist commuters.

The free ride routes included:

  • Philcoa to Cubao
  • Welcome Rotonda to Cubao
  • Lawton to Welcome Rotonda
  • Lawton to PITX
  • Nagtahan to Cubao
  • Commonwealth to Fairview

Various transport groups organized the strike to protest rising fuel prices due to Middle East tensions. Their demands included the removal of VAT and excise taxes on petroleum products, reverting gasoline prices to ₱55 per liter, and repealing the Oil Deregulation Law.

The groups also called for higher fare allowances, a ₱1,200 family living wage, and nationalization of the oil industry.
