DOTr POSTPONES YEAR-END PERFORMANCE ASSESSMENT AMID CALAMITIES, PUBLIC SCRUTINY

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) has decided to postpone its agency-wide Year-end Performance Assessment following a series of calamities and growing concerns over government fund utilization.

In a memorandum dated October 30, Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez announced the deferment, emphasizing the need for prudence and sensitivity during challenging times.

“While such occasions indeed foster morale and unity, these likewise entail the use of government funds and the time and effort of the offices involved in the preparation,” Lopez wrote.

“It is, therefore, incumbent to ensure that any activity undertaken reflects judicious use of public resources and strict adherence to established government rules and regulations.”

He also noted that many Filipinos have been “severely affected by natural calamities, including earthquakes, typhoons, floods, and volcanic eruptions.”

Lopez further underscored that with “ongoing investigations and heightened public scrutiny concerning the use of government funds,” the department must remain sensitive and responsible.

Despite the deferment, the DOTr clarified that simple, modest gatherings within offices are permitted, as long as they do not disrupt regular operations.
