Department of Transportation (DOTr) Acting Secretary Giovanni Lopez has ordered the reallocation of ₱50 million originally intended for the purchase of new agency vehicles, directing that the amount instead be used to upgrade the customer facilities of the Land Transportation Office (LTO) and the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB).
In a statement released on Saturday, October 18, the DOTr said Lopez issued a memorandum dated October 16, instructing the fund reallotment “to improve existing waiting/client areas in their respective offices.”
The improvements will include the installation of air conditioning units, provision of water dispensers, and additional seating for clients.
According to Lopez, the directive is “in compliance with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. to give the Filipino people the public transport and services that they need and deserve.”
He added that “the DOTr together with its sectoral offices such as the LTO and LTFRB shall undertake measures to improve the delivery of services including the enhancement of facilities used by the general public.”
Lopez also reminded both agencies to utilize the reallocated fund properly and ensure that all enhancements directly benefit the public.
