DPWH EYES EARLY COMPLETION OF EDSA REBLOCKING

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) said it is working around the clock to complete concrete reblocking on EDSA, expressing optimism that repairs will be finished ahead of the early morning target on January 5.

Reblocking on select sections of EDSA started on December 24 to take advantage of lighter traffic during the holiday break.

“The DPWH is operating 24/7 with augmented equipment and personnel to fast-track the EDSA Rehabilitation project and finish the repair works ahead of schedule,” the agency said on Friday.

Phase 1 of the EDSA Rehabilitation project is projected to be completed by May 2026. Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon earlier clarified that reblocking is being done only on portions requiring urgent repair, instead of a full replacement as initially planned.

DPWH said additional repairs and asphalt overlaying beyond January 5 will be carried out between 10 PM and 4 AM to minimize traffic congestion.

The agency also thanked the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and the Department of Transportation for deploying extra traffic enforcers during the rehabilitation.

“We thank the public for their understanding as we conduct these essential road improvements,” the DPWH said.

President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. had postponed the EDSA rehabilitation in June, citing concerns over traffic disruption, and directed the DPWH to come up with a revised repair plan.
