DPWH RAMPS UP OPLAN KONTRA BAHA IN NCR

The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) announced steady progress in its flood control initiatives as Oplan Kontra Baha intensified operations across Metro Manila.

The agency said the improvements reflect its commitment to keeping drainage systems and waterways functional to reduce flooding risks in the National Capital Region.

Under the program, DPWH teams have been cleaning esteros, dredging waterways, hauling spoils, declogging drainage inlets and laterals, manually clearing drainage lines, and desilting waterways to ensure efficient flow during heavy rains.

As of the third week of January 2026, declogging works reached 73.69%, equivalent to more than 3,394.82 cubic meters of cleared drainage systems. During the same period, desilting operations removed 11,211.24 cubic meters of sediment from waterways across Metro Manila.

The agency assured the public that Oplan Kontra Baha activities will continue weekly as part of its strengthened flood preparedness efforts to safeguard communities in the NCR.
