DPWH SEC. DIZON NAMES NEW USEC AS AGENCY REVIVES CADET ENGINEERING PROGRAM

Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Secretary Vince Dizon announced the appointment of a new undersecretary as part of the agency’s move to revive its Cadet Engineering Program, which aims to develop a new generation of engineers and future leaders within the department.

The new appointee is Bureau of Design Director Lara Marisse Esquibil, who will serve as Undersecretary for Convergence and Technical Services. At only 36 years old, Esquibil is a graduate of the Cadet Engineering Program, making her the first alumna of the initiative to rise to such a high-ranking post.

Dizon expressed confidence that his recommendation will be approved by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., emphasizing that the selection was guided by merit, competence, and integrity.

“Dapat mangibabaw ang interes ng bayan at ang piliin sa puwesto ay mga karapat-dapat mula sa kasipagan, galing, at katapatan,” said Dizon.

He admitted that convincing Esquibil to accept the post was not easy, given the pressure and scrutiny that often come with leadership roles.

“Mahirapan ako na kumbinsihin si Lara, hindi lang dahil sa bagong hamon ng trabaho kundi maging ang intriga na kanyang haharapin,” he said.

Dizon also underscored the critical role of the position, which was vacated by former Usec. Arrey Perez, particularly in ensuring the swift implementation of key infrastructure projects under the DPWH’s convergence initiatives.

The move, according to Dizon, reflects the agency’s commitment to empower capable young leaders and strengthen its ranks with professionals who embody excellence and dedication in public service.
