DPWH TIGHTENS PERFORMANCE STANDARDS FOR REGIONAL, DISTRICT OFFICIALS

Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon has issued a new department order tightening performance-based standards for the appointment and promotion of regional and district officials within the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

The move comes amid ongoing reforms following allegations of corruption in flood control projects, which reportedly involved collusion between certain politicians and DPWH personnel.

Under the new guidelines, officials will be evaluated more rigorously on key performance criteria, including:

  • Timely and quality repair and maintenance of roads, bridges, and flood control structures.
  • Rapid response to damage caused by natural disasters or man-made incidents.
  • Timely and high-quality completion of projects.

“They will be judged by this. Pagka sila ay hindi pumasa dito, tanggal sila o papalitan sila immediately. Every year, ang magiging measurement nito,” Dizon warned, underscoring that non-compliance would result in immediate replacement.

At the same time, Dizon emphasized that the policy aims to motivate rank-and-file employees, highlighting that diligence and competence will be recognized and rewarded.

“If you are qualified, if you work hard, you will get noticed, and you will be promoted,” he said, stressing that merit and performance will drive career growth within the agency.
