The government, through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH), will repair damaged dikes in Calumpit, Bulacan, to help reduce flooding during the rainy season.
During a Friday meeting, Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon instructed the new officers of the DPWH Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office to prioritize Calumpit and other low-lying areas, following President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s directive to implement projects properly based on the master plan.
He also emphasized that there should be no “ghost” or substandard projects this time around.
To recall, Marcos inspected a river protection project in Barangay Bulusan in August last year after complaints were filed via the sumbongsapangulo.ph website.
Despite official records showing the structure as completed, the on-site assessment revealed that over 200 meters of the dike were never installed.
Marcos also noted shoddy construction work, including structural gaps and steel reinforcements not embedded properly.
The sumbongsapangulo.ph website was created following Marcos’ 4th State of the Nation Address (SONA) to investigate irregularities in flood control projects.
