DUTERTE HIGHLIGHTS INDIGENOUS PEOPLES’ CONTRIBUTIONS DURING IP MONTH

Vice President Sara Duterte emphasized the importance of celebrating Indigenous Peoples this October, commemorating their rich culture, wisdom, and contributions to the nation.

In a video shared on her Facebook page on Tuesday, October 7, VP Sara marked the 28th anniversary of the Indigenous Peoples Rights Act (IPRA) alongside Indigenous Peoples Month.

“Ngayong ipinagdiriwang natin ang Indigenous Peoples Month at ang ika-dalawampu’t walong taon ng Indigenous Peoples Rights Act o IPRA,” she said.

She further highlighted the invaluable role of Indigenous Peoples in protecting the environment, enriching Philippine culture, and advancing the nation’s knowledge.

“Let us recognize the unparalleled contributions of our Indigenous Peoples in safeguarding our environment, enriching our culture, and advancing the wisdom of our nation,” VP Sara said.

According to the Vice President, the wisdom and traditions of Indigenous communities continue to strengthen the identity and resilience of Filipinos.

“Their heritage of knowledge and tradition continues to give us strength and identity as Filipinos,” she added. “It is a testament to their steadfast commitment and love for ancestral lands and for the future of generations to come.”

VP Sara urged everyone to continue valuing, protecting, and honoring the rights and culture of Indigenous Peoples.

“May we continue to appreciate, safeguard, and honor their rights and culture,” she said.

She concluded with a call for inclusive development, encouraging Filipinos to work together to ensure Indigenous communities live with dignity, freedom, and adequate government and community support.

“Let us collectively promote fair and inclusive development where every Indigenous Filipino lives with dignity, freedom, and sufficient support from both government and community,” VP Sara added.
