DUTERTE IN ICC DETENTION: ‘NO REGRETS, NO APOLOGIES’ AS HE FIGHTS CRIMES AGAINST HUMANITY CASE

Detained former president Rodrigo Duterte said he has “no regrets and no apologies” over his actions while in office, even as he faces charges of crimes against humanity before the International Criminal Court (ICC) in The Hague, Netherlands.

In an interview posted on the Facebook page of his former spokesman Harry Roque, Duterte’s youngest daughter Veronica “Kitty” Duterte assured supporters that her father “is doing OK” as crowds continue to gather outside his detention cell.

“He says, no regrets and no apologies. He did what he could for this country,” Kitty said.

The former president’s daughter also shared lighter moments from her visit. She said Duterte complimented her duster, recalling how she used to wear it when they would sleep beside each other at home.

“I think it kind of gave him a glimpse of home,” she said, adding that her father sent his “warm love, regards, and gratitude.”

Kitty noted that her father remains deeply concerned about her health, telling her, “As long as I’m doing OK, he’s fine.”

Meanwhile, Vice President Sara Duterte, currently in Kuwait, confirmed that her father is seeking interim release under the Rome Statute, which grants temporary freedom to ICC detainees who qualify.

She emphasized that Duterte has “no intention of evading justice” and only wishes to return to Davao City if granted release.

The former president was arrested on March 11 and turned over to the ICC. His legal team is preparing for the confirmation of charges hearing on September 23.
