Former President Rodrigo Duterte may personally attend the International Criminal Court (ICC) hearing on the confirmation of charges scheduled on February 23, according to ICC Assistant to Counsel Atty. Kristina Conti.
Conti said the ICC’s Pre-Trial Chamber I (PTC) has already put measures in place to accommodate Duterte’s health condition.
“Huge consideration was given to Duterte for his medical condition,” she noted.
She added that Duterte may still be physically present at the hearing, pointing out that no request was made for a video appearance.
“If he waives his appearance, then that’s his fault. But as far as I heard, he didn’t request to appear by video … So, I think he could be present at the next hearing,” Conti said.
Conti explained that each hearing day would last around three hours. The proceedings are set from February 23 to 24 and will resume from February 26 to 27.
The confirmation of charges hearing was originally scheduled for September 23, 2025. Duterte is facing charges of crimes against humanity in connection with his administration’s war on drugs.
