Senate Deputy Majority Leader JV Ejercito expressed his stance on the possible new chairperson of the Senate Committee on Accountability, Public Officers and Investigations, or the Blue Ribbon Committee, which is currently probing the alleged anomalies in flood control projects.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, October 22, Ejercito said he is willing to work with whoever will lead the powerful investigative panel.
“Whoever chairs the Blue Ribbon Committee, I can work with. What’s important is that we move decisively and get to the bottom of this biggest scandal, which is the floodgates caused by syndicated criminals,” he said.
He further emphasized the importance of addressing the root cause of the controversy.
“Ever since I’ve been firm that the focus should be the modus so we can introduce legislation that will prevent this kind of crime from happening again.”
Speculations have been circulating about the possible return of Senate President Pro Tempore Panfilo “Ping” Lacson as chair of the Blue Ribbon Committee.
This comes after Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III confirmed that Lacson’s comeback is being considered following calls from fellow senators and the public.
Lacson resigned from the position on October 5 after several colleagues reportedly urged him to step down from the post.
