The camp of Senator Chiz Escudero has submitted its formal response to the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) on Tuesday, October 14, addressing questions regarding a campaign donation from a construction contractor.
According to Atty. Ramon Esguerra, Escudero’s legal counsel, the senator’s team filed their submission ahead of schedule as a sign of respect for COMELEC’s process, stressing that the donation in question was entirely lawful.
“We’re filing our submission early to respect the COMELEC process. Our position is clear: the donation was legal, fully declared, and follows long-standing practice,” Esguerra said.
He added that they remain confident the poll body will find nothing irregular in the transaction.
“The law is on our side, and we are confident the COMELEC will find no fault,” he further stated.
Earlier, the COMELEC issued a show-cause order to Senator Escudero, directing him to explain the ₱30-million campaign contribution he received from Lawrence Lubiano, president of Centerways Construction and Development Inc., during the 2022 national elections.
