Senate President Pro Tempore Jinggoy Estrada is set to grill controversial couple Curlee and Sarah Discaya at the next hearing of the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee.
The Discayas have once again been thrust into the spotlight after their firms — Alpha and Omega Gen. Contractor and Development Inc. and St. Timothy Construction Corporation — were included in President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s recently released list of the Top 15 contractors in the country’s flood control projects.
In an interview with ANC, Estrada questioned the credibility of the couple’s so-called “rags to riches” story, which they previously shared in interviews with veteran journalists Julius Babao and Korina Sanchez-Roxas.
“Nakakagulat yung mga revelations dun sa interview,” Estrada said.
He further raised eyebrows at their sudden wealth.
“How can a couple who started from scratch afford acquire or purchase 59 luxury vehicles?”
For Estrada, the answer is obvious: their fortune is tied directly to DPWH flood control projects. He intends to press the couple on who their “contacts” are inside the department.
“And sinabi naman nila sa interview ng mag-asawa na ‘yun na ang gateway nila sa pagyaman nila eh nung sumali sila sa DPWH. So that is very very clear,” he stressed.
Estrada added:
“I will ask her (Sarah Discaya), sino bang contact mo dyan sa DPWH? How can they garner lot of contracts there?”
The Discayas had previously been subpoenaed by the Blue Ribbon Committee after skipping its first hearing last August 19. The second hearing, chaired by Senate Deputy Majority Leader Rodante Marcoleta, is set for September 1.
