FILIPINO FISHERMEN IN GOOD CONDITION AFTER ESCODA SHOAL INCIDENT

Filipino fishermen on nearly 20 fishing boats are now in stable condition after being targeted with water cannons by Chinese vessels at Escoda Shoal, Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Spokesperson Commodore Jay Tarriela reported on Saturday.

In a television interview, Tarriela said the three injured fishermen from Friday’s incident have been brought aboard a PCG vessel, while the crews of two damaged boats transferred to other vessels.

Filipino fishermen continue to operate in Escoda Shoal, accompanied by a PCG vessel to ensure their safety.

“Nakakapangisda naman nang maayos ngayon, although there are also presence of the Chinese Coast Guard. Pero based on the statements ng ating mga kababayang mangingisdang Pilipino, kapag nandiyan ang Philippine Coast Guard, they feel like more secured,” Tarriela said.

The official also assured that the PCG vessel will remain with the fishermen in the area as long as they wish to continue fishing there.
