FIREWORK-RELATED INJURIES REACH 91 NATIONWIDE

The Department of Health (DOH) reported that firework-related injuries in the country have climbed to 91 as of Saturday, December 27, covering cases from December 21 to 27. The tally is still 34% lower than the record for the same period in 2024.

Most injuries occurred in the National Capital Region with 40 cases, followed by Ilocos Region with 10, and Western Visayas with 8.

The majority of victims were males aged 10 to 14. The top causes of injuries were 5-star firecrackers, followed by unknown types, Boga, Kwitis, and Pla-pla.

“Karamihan po ng mga kaso ay dahil sa fireworks. Wala pong namatay sa ating rehistro, at sa ganitong panahon wala parin naitatala na nakalunok o nakakain ng Watusi or any other fireworks,” DOH Spokesperson Assistant Secretary Albert Domingo said.

Domingo noted that two victims required finger amputations due to injuries from 5-star and Whistlebomb firecrackers, and others suffered eye injuries.

He stressed, “Marami pong pwede maging resulta ang pagsindi ng fireworks. Legal man o illegal, ang payo po ng Department of Health di po dapat humahawak ng fireworks ang kabataan.”
