FLORES SAYS HOUSE WILL HANDLE MARCOS IMPEACHMENT WITH PRUDENCE

Bukidnon 2nd District Representative Jonathan Flores on Monday said the House of Representatives will fulfill its constitutional duty in addressing the impeachment complaint against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., but will do so with caution and responsibility.

Flores stressed that the complaint filed by lawyer Andre de Jesus will be processed in line with the Constitution, House rules, and Supreme Court parameters, pending resolution of the motion for reconsideration in Vice President Sara Duterte’s impeachment case.

“That said, impeachment is not evaluated in a vacuum. It is a constitutional process that ultimately requires broad institutional support and a clear showing of grave grounds to move forward,” Flores said.

He noted that the House supermajority remains supportive of Marcos and the stability of his administration.

“This political reality is not a matter of partisanship but of governance. Members of the House are mindful of their responsibility to uphold continuity, protect institutional stability, and avoid actions that could unnecessarily disrupt the country’s economic and social recovery,” Flores said.

Under the Constitution, one-third of the chamber’s 318 members is required to transmit Articles of Impeachment to the Senate.

Flores emphasized that while the complaint will be given due consideration, impeachment must meet constitutional thresholds and the prevailing judgment of the majority.

“The complaint will receive the consideration required by law. However, it would be inaccurate to ignore the fact that any impeachment effort must overcome both constitutional thresholds and the prevailing judgment of the overwhelming majority of House members, who may see no basis at this time for removing a duly elected President,” he said.

Flores concluded by underscoring the chamber’s commitment to act responsibly.

“The House remains committed to its constitutional duty, but it will exercise that duty with prudence, restraint, and a clear sense of the national interest,” he added.
