FORMER COMELEC SPOX JAMES JIMENEZ DIES AT 52

Long-time Commission on Elections (COMELEC) spokesperson James Jimenez passed away on Wednesday at the age of 52, the poll body confirmed.

In a statement, COMELEC paid tribute to Jimenez, recognizing his years of dedicated service to the institution and the Filipino people.

COMELEC honored Jimenez “who served the institution and the Filipino people with integrity, clarity and utmost dedication.”

Jimenez served as COMELEC spokesperson from July 2006 to September 2022 and also held the position of Director IV of the Education and Information Department.

“Jimenez holds the rare distinction of being the longest-serving and youngest spokesperson in government at the time of his appointment,” COMELEC said.

The poll body highlighted Jimenez’s role as a key figure in communicating electoral processes to the public.

“From July 2006 to September 2022, he was the public face and steady voice of the Commission—explaining complex electoral processes with precision, defending democratic institutions with calm courage, and engaging citizens and media with respect, wit and transparency,” it added.
