Former professional basketball player Mark Cardona was arrested in Bonifacio Global City on Saturday, March 28, 2026, following an alleged incident involving harassment and physical assault.
According to a police report, a 21-year-old woman accused the 44-year-old ex-athlete of inappropriate conduct, stating:
“bigla siyang hinawakan sa kamay at hinalikan nang walang pahintulot.”
The report further detailed the escalation:
“However, the suspect became aggressive, pushed her boyfriend, and challenged him to a fight. They then approached a bouncer to report the incident, but the suspect continued to act aggressively and even poked the boyfriend’s eyes.”
Authorities said other women later approached the complainant, claiming they had experienced similar encounters with Cardona. Security personnel assisted the victim and her boyfriend, bringing them to a police station where a formal complaint was filed.
Melvin Garcia, chief of the Taguig Police Public Information Office and Investigation and Detection Management Section, confirmed that Cardona underwent inquest proceedings. He now faces charges of acts of lasciviousness and physical injury.
Cardona, once nicknamed “The Captain” during his Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) career, last played in 2016.
His name had previously surfaced in other legal controversies, including a physical injury case involving a former live-in partner, estafa, and allegations of pawning a stolen vehicle.
As of press time, Cardona has yet to issue a statement.
