Four people were reported to have died during Traslacion 2026, the Quiapo Church administration said Saturday.
“We already have the number of casualties reported to us from the time that the andas arrived at Quiapo Church. We have a total of four casualties,” Nazareno 2026 spokesperson Father Robert Arellano said.
“Masasabi natin hindi naman siya ganu’ng kadugo. Ang pinaka-worst na in-expect natin ng ganitong kadaming gathering would be stampede. Ito ‘yung ating iniiwasan. Pero nagpapasalamat pa rin tayo, hindi tayo humantong sa ganitong punto,” he added.
“Masasabi natin ito ay isa sa may mataas ng datos when it comes to casualties,” Arellano said, noting the event was the longest in Traslacion history and drew the largest number of devotees.
The Philippine National Police (PNP) described the procession as “generally peaceful and orderly,” while acknowledging the reported deaths.
Church officials clarified that a photojournalist who passed away Friday while covering the event was not considered a casualty of the religious activity.
A total of 1,057 medical cases were recorded during the Traslacion. PNP Acting Chief Police Lieutenant General Jose Melencio Nartatez Jr. said, “Overall, we consider the Traslacion generally peaceful and orderly despite the sheer volume of devotees.”
The Philippine Red Cross (PRC) reported attending to 849 patients from Thursday to Saturday morning, transporting 19 for further medical care.
In addition, 2,204 devotees received welfare assistance along the procession route during the 48-hour operation.
