President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has removed Christina Frasco from her post as secretary of the Department of Tourism (DOT) and appointed her as Presidential Adviser for Sustainable and Resilient Communities, Malacañang announced on Thursday.
Communications Undersecretary and Palace Press Officer Claire Castro confirmed the development, noting that reports of Frasco’s removal surfaced earlier in the day. The Palace did not provide details on the circumstances surrounding her departure from the DOT.
Castro added that Tourism Undersecretary Verna Buensuceso will serve as officer-in-charge of the department on a temporary basis.
Frasco, a member of one of Cebu’s prominent political families, had led the DOT since the start of the Marcos administration in 2022.
