Fredderick Vida, who previously served as officer in charge (OIC) of the Department of Justice (DOJ), has formally assumed the role of acting secretary, replacing Ombudsman Jesus Crispin “Boying” Remulla.
Vida announced his appointment during the 89th anniversary of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) on Thursday.
A document from Malacañang dated November 12 also confirmed his appointment, which is subject to the Commission on Appointments (CA) approval.
He previously served as assistant secretary under Remulla and was promoted to undersecretary in October 2023.
Before his DOJ tenure, Vida served three consecutive terms as mayor of Mendez, Cavite, from 2013 to 2022.
