FUEL HIKES RIPPLE THROUGH MARKETS, PUSHING UP COST OF ESSENTIALS

Consumers are feeling the squeeze as fuel price increases continue to drive up the cost of everyday essentials and services in public markets.

Despite earlier assurances from the Department of Trade and Industry that price movements would be closely monitored, several basic commodities have already seen noticeable hikes.

Charcoal now sells for ₱100 per bag, up from ₱90, while mineral water refills have climbed from ₱25 to ₱30. Cooking oil refills have also risen from ₱35 to ₱38, adding further strain on household budgets.

The impact has extended beyond goods. Laundry shops have raised their rates per kilo, citing higher fuel costs as a major factor affecting daily operations. In Bulacan, small grocery store owners likewise adjusted prices, saying surging gasoline expenses have significantly increased supply and delivery costs.

The ongoing adjustments reflect how fuel hikes ripple across multiple sectors, pushing up the cost of essential goods and services that Filipino families rely on daily.
