GATCHALIAN PUSHES CAREER GROWTH, SAYS NO TEACHER SHOULD RETIRE AT LOWEST RANK

Senator Win Gatchalian on Wednesday underscored that no public school teacher should end their career at the lowest rank, as the government moves to promote at least 100,000 educators and school leaders this year.

Gatchalian made the statement during the rollout of a large-scale promotion program by the Department of Education (DepEd), under the Career Progression System for Public School Teachers and School Leaders Act—a measure he co-authored to expand professional growth opportunities in the education sector.

As chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, the senator said the law aims to open more pathways for advancement, ensuring teachers are no longer confined to entry-level positions throughout their careers.

“Ngayong mas marami nang oportunidad para sa pag-angat ng karera ng ating mga guro, mas matutulungan natin silang umunlad at magtagumpay sa kanilang propesyon,” Gatchalian said.

“Mahalagang itaguyod natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga guro lalo na’t sila ang may pinakamahalagang papel sa edukasyon ng ating mga kabataan.”

The law introduces higher-ranking positions, including Teacher IV to Teacher VII, along with expanded roles for Master Teachers and School Principals.

It also mandates DepEd to implement clear and consistent standards for promotions among teachers and school leaders.

Gatchalian emphasized that the measure is designed to uplift educators and ensure their contributions are recognized through meaningful career advancement.
