Senator Win Gatchalian was asked by journalists on Friday, November 14, about the recent claims made by former Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Zaldy Co.
Co released a video the same day explaining why he has not returned to the Philippines and alleging a budget insertion ordered by President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.
In his response, Gatchalian said he had not yet watched the video but acknowledged that Co’s statements appear serious.
“Mahirap mag-comment ngayon ano. I have to look at the video… but definitely seryoso ang kaniyang mga sinasabi pero hindi rin natin matiyak kung totoo ang kaniyang sinasabi,” the senator said.
Gatchalian emphasized that Co should be physically present in the country to address the allegations against him.
“Para sa akin, kung ikaw ay walang tinatago dapat nandito ka physically. Harapin mo itong mga tanong, pumunta ka rito sa hearing, at harapin mo ‘yong mga akusasyon sa’yo, hindi ‘yong nagtatago ka tapos gagawa ka ng video tapos kung ano-ano ‘yong sinasabi mo. I think ‘yong physical presence ‘yan ‘yong pinakaimportante na magvi-vindicate sa’yo,” he added.
Prior to Co releasing the video, his legal counsel, Atty. Ruy Rondain, said that his client was afraid to return to the Philippines due to threats he had received.
