The digital payments platform GCash has announced that it will waive transaction fees for overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in several Middle Eastern countries, covering services such as bank transfers, bill payments, and mobile load purchases.
The initiative applies to OFWs based in the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, and Oman.
According to GCash, the waived fees will be returned to users through in-app cashback.
Transactions made between March 4 and March 10 will receive cashback on March 20, while those completed from March 11 to March 14 will be credited on March 27.
The fintech platform said the program is designed to help Filipino workers abroad continue supporting their families and accessing financial services without additional costs, especially as tensions in the Middle East continue to rise.
The announcement comes amid escalating conflict in the region, with Israel carrying out strikes in Lebanon and intercepting missiles from Iran, while instability has also spread to Iraq following joint military actions by the United States and Israel.
GCash said the move reflects its commitment to supporting OFWs and ensuring they remain connected to loved ones in the Philippines during uncertain times.
