The government has appealed to beneficiaries of its affordable housing programs not to sell the homes they received from the state.
According to National Housing Authority (NHA) General Manager Joeben Tai, it would be a waste if beneficiaries choose to sell their government-awarded housing units instead of keeping them for their families.
“This opportunity comes only once,” Tai said, emphasizing that these affordable homes are given only to qualified and deserving beneficiaries.
He added that the Marcos Administration’s housing initiative continues to roll out low-rise and mid-rise projects nationwide to provide decent and affordable shelter to more Filipinos.
Tai also confirmed that while many of the “poorest of the poor” have already benefited from the program, the NHA has recorded cases of beneficiaries selling their housing rights—a violation of program rules.
He urged recipients to value the rare opportunity of owning a home provided by the government and refrain from engaging in resale transactions that defeat the purpose of the housing program.
