GROUPS PLAN NEW IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINT AGAINST VP SARA

Progressive and civil society groups are preparing to file a fresh impeachment complaint against Vice President Sara Duterte once the one-year ban expires in February, Bayan Chairperson and former Bayan Muna Rep. Teddy Casiño said Monday.

The planned complaint would again cite the alleged “betrayal of public trust” over supposed misuse of confidential funds as the main ground.

Casiño noted that the group is awaiting the outcome of the Supreme Court’s appeal review, which could influence the details of the next complaint.

“‘Yun ang pinakamatibay so far… Posibleng madagdagan. So far that is the complaint that we intend to refile… Wala pa tayong details, masyado pang maaga, pero definitely, pinaghahandaan na natin,” he said.

“Baka doon sa decision sa appeal, baka may mga bago pa silang idagdag or baka baguhin nila ‘yung kanilang desisyon, so malaki ang magiging implications noon kung ano ang magiging approach dito sa susunod na round ng impeachment na ito,” Casiño added.

He also confirmed that lawyers from the National Union of Peoples’ Lawyers (NUPL) and previous complainants would be involved.

The Supreme Court previously nullified earlier articles of impeachment for violating the one-year ban on multiple complaints, but emphasized that Duterte is not absolved from any charges. Any new complaint can only be filed starting February 6, 2026.
