GUANZON CONFIRMS SENATE BID IN 2028

Former Commission on Elections commissioner Rowena Guanzon has confirmed she will run for senator in the 2028 national elections.

Speaking at a gathering of supporters of former President Rodrigo Duterte in Cebu City, Guanzon said she is ready to take on the challenge and push for stronger representation of the Bisaya in national politics.

“Tatanggapin ko ito ng buong puso. Ipaglalaban ko ang mga Bisaya,” Guanzon declared.

She pointed out that Cebu has not had a representative in the Senate for two decades.

“20 years na walang Cebuanong senador! Babawiin natin ang ating puwesto sa Senado,” she said.

The last senator from Cebu was Serge Osmeña, who served from 1995 to 2007 and again from 2010 to 2016.

It remains unclear whether Guanzon will align with the political camp of Vice President Sara Duterte or pursue an independent candidacy.

Guanzon previously served as commissioner of both the Commission on Elections and the Commission on Audit and has remained active in public discussions and political debates after leaving government service.
