Senate Deputy Majority Leader Risa Hontiveros said Wednesday she is actively working to unify the political opposition in preparation for the 2028 national and local elections, aiming to assemble what she calls the “most winnable” slate.
“My plans that I’m implementing right now are to work on unifying the opposition para mag-rally around kami sa strongest, most popular, most winnable possible slate namin of candidates for 2028,” she told ANC.
Hontiveros, who will be term-limited by 2028, confirmed she is open to seeking higher office, including the presidency or vice presidency. She also urged fellow opposition leaders to keep their options open, stressing that a broad coalition is essential.
“These are the forces na I’m really working with to hopefully unify the opposition and beyond, hindi lang ‘yung mga Kakampinks, plus-plus talaga ang kailangang magkaisa para lumaban at para manalo,” she added.
Political analysts point to former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo and Senator Bam Aquino as other potential strong contenders for the opposition.
