HONTIVEROS SEEKS UNITY AMONG ‘LEGITIMATE’ OPPOSITION AHEAD OF 2028 POLLS

Senate Deputy Minority Leader Risa Hontiveros wants to rally the “legitimate” opposition, especially in preparation for the upcoming 2028 presidential elections.

In an interview on One News’ Storycon, Hontiveros revealed that her priority over the next nine months is to engage with various opposition groups—particularly those pushing for government reforms—to strengthen what she describes as the “legitimate” opposition.

“Itong siyam na buwan, priority ko (ang) maka-ambag sa pagkakaisa, sa oposisyon or some forces within what I call the opposition would call themselves reformists or independent, kung ano man,” Hontiveros said.

Among those she plans to meet are the Mamamayang Liberal (ML) Partylist, Senators Bam Aquino and Kiko Pangilinan, as well as local government leaders allied with former Vice President and now Naga City Mayor Leni Robredo.

Hontiveros also expressed gratitude to former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for saying she is the most qualified to be the opposition’s standard-bearer in 2028, though she stressed that her focus now is on uniting their ranks.
