Batangas 2nd District Representative Gerville Luistro said the same standards used in evaluating impeachment complaints against President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. would also be applied to cases filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.
Luistro, chair of the House Committee on Justice, made the remark after the House plenary adopted the committee’s recommendation to dismiss the impeachment complaints against Marcos on Tuesday.
“The people of the Philippines are assured na kung anong naging parameter, anong naging deliberation, anong naging approach… in handling the impeachment complaints against the President will be adopted… with respect to the impeachment complaints against the Vice President,” Luistro said.
Three impeachment complaints have been filed against Duterte, all transmitted to the Office of the Speaker.
Under House rules, the Speaker has 10 session days to include the complaints in the order of business, after which the plenary has three session days to refer them to the justice committee. The committee then has 60 session days to deliberate and submit its recommendations.
The first complaint was filed by the Makabayan coalition, the second by a coalition of civil society groups on February 2, and a third by religious leaders and lawyers on February 9.
