HOUSE LEADERS BRUSH OFF TALKS OF LEADERSHIP SHAKE-UP AGAINST SPEAKER ROMUALDEZ

Several leaders in the House of Representatives downplayed rumors of a possible leadership change targeting Speaker Martin Romualdez, following his name being linked to alleged corruption in flood control projects.

Surigao del Sur 1st District Representative Romeo Momo Sr. said the “supermajority” bloc continues to stand firmly behind Romualdez.

“Supermajority pa rin ang nasa likod, nagba-back up kay Speaker Martin (Romualdez). Maraming pumoporma dahil alam mo naman, ‘yung posisyon ng speakership, maraming interesado pero I think the majority is still nagba-back up pa rin kay Speaker Martin,” Momo told DZMM Radyo Patrol 630 in an interview.

Former Surigao del Norte 2nd District Representative and current House Communications Office Chief Robert Ace Barbers echoed this, stressing that Romualdez still enjoys overwhelming support from lawmakers in the 20th Congress.

“Although there are noises coming out saying that there’s a change in leadership, that is not true. The Speaker Martin Romualdez enjoys overwhelming support coming from the members of the 20th Congress,” said Barbers.
