HOUSE ON TRACK TO PASS 2026 NATIONAL BUDGET, SAYS SPEAKER DY

The House of Representatives is on track to pass the proposed 2026 national budget, House Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III confirmed on Tuesday.

Dy’s assurance came after Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III said President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. will not certify the budget bill as urgent this year, unlike in previous years.

Last week, the lower chamber adopted a resolution requesting the Senate’s consent to extend its plenary session until October 13, allowing sufficient time for the third and final reading of the proposed ₱6.793 trillion national budget for 2026. The House aims to approve the budget on second reading by October 10.

Under House Rules, no bill can become law “unless it passes three readings on separate days, and printed copies thereof in its final form are distributed to the Members three days before its passage, except when the President certifies to the necessity of its immediate enactment to meet a public calamity or urgency.”

When asked whether the House remains on track to approve the 2026 House General Appropriations Bill (HGAB), Dy responded simply, “yes.”
