The House Committee on Justice has formally invited Vice President Sara Duterte to attend its March 25 hearing, where lawmakers will discuss ground rules and initial proceedings on the impeachment complaints filed against her.
In a March 19 letter, committee chair and Batangas 2nd District Representative Gerville Luistro requested Duterte’s personal attendance as respondent in the cases lodged by Reverend Father Joel Saballa and others, and lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera.
“In this regard, we respectfully invite you to personally attend the said meeting in your capacity as the respondent in the impeachment complaints filed by Reverend Father Joel Saballa, et. al., and Atty. Nathaniel G. Cabrera,” the letter stated.
The committee is set to convene on March 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the People’s Center Building in Quezon City. The agenda includes the “Discussion on Impeachment Hearing Ground Rules” and the “Initial Hearing on the Impeachment Complaints.”
The complaints were filed separately—one by Saballa and others, endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima, and another by Cabrera, endorsed by Manila 6th District Representative Benny Abante and La Union 1st District Representative Paolo Ortega.
The panel is also expected to deliberate on pending motions, including requests for subpoenas, and finalize the schedule of succeeding hearings. Resource persons and witnesses for the first full hearing on April 14 will also be identified.
The committee noted that Duterte may coordinate with its secretariat for confirmation of attendance and other related concerns.
