HOUSE PUSHES ANTI-POLITICAL DYNASTY BILL FOR SONA

The House of Representatives is pushing for the proposed anti-political dynasty law to be included in the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. in July.

Lanao del Sur 1st District Representative Zia Alonto Adiong, chairperson of the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms, said the measure is the top priority among the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (LEDAC) agenda.

“It’s actually the number 1 priority among the LEDAC priorities, and so we are pressed with time. The leadership wants this measure to be done before the Lenten break because the leadership wants the anti-political dynasty be part of the SONA of the President in July,” Adiong said.

The committee held a public consultation in Cebu City on Thursday to gather stakeholder input for a more responsive version of the bill.

“All stakeholders, all their inputs are important to the committee so that we can come up with much responsive and much reflective version of the anti-political dynasty,” he added.

The panel is scheduled to hold another public hearing on Friday in Cagayan de Oro, as lawmakers aim to finalize the measure ahead of the President’s annual address.
