HOUSE RECEIVES IMPEACHMENT COMPLAINTS VS VP SARA

The House of Representatives has formally received two impeachment complaints filed against Vice President Sara Duterte.

House Secretary General Cheloy Velicaria-Garafil confirmed that her office transmitted the complaints to the Office of Speaker Faustino “Bojie” Dy III on Thursday afternoon, in line with constitutional requirements, House rules, and long-standing institutional protocol.

The first verified complaint was filed by members of the Makabayan bloc and endorsed by ACT Teachers Party-list Replacement Antonio Tinio, Gabriela Party-list Representative Sarah Elago, and Kabataan Party-list Representative Renee Co.

The second complaint was lodged by a coalition of civil society groups led by Tindig Pilipinas co-convenor Kiko Aquino-Dee, along with several prominent figures, and endorsed by Mamamayang Liberal Party-list Representative Leila de Lima and Akbayan Party-list Representative Perci Cendaña.

Under House rules, the Speaker’s office has 10 session days to include the complaints in the plenary’s order of business. Once included, the measures must be referred to the Committee on Justice within three session days.

The justice panel will then days to determine probable cause and decide whether to recommend transmitting the complaints to the Senate for trial.

At least one-third of all House members is required for transmission to the Senate. With the chamber currently composed of 315 members, a minimum of 105 votes will be needed to move the impeachment process forward.
