The International Criminal Court has approved requests from both prosecutors and the defense of former President Rodrigo Duterte to revise their respective evidence lists ahead of his upcoming confirmation of charges hearing.
In a ruling dated February 10, ICC Pre-Trial Chamber I directed both parties to submit updated lists by February 13.
Duterte’s defense team moved to add 78 new items to bolster its arguments, while prosecutors sought to include two additional pieces of evidence. The prosecution’s request was not opposed by the defense or by victims’ representatives.
The chamber said the additional materials were limited in scope, directly relevant to matters at the confirmation stage, and supported by “good cause.”
It added that allowing the updates would not unfairly prejudice either side.
Duterte’s confirmation of charges hearing is set for February 23 to 27.
The proceedings will determine whether the crimes against humanity case linked to his anti-drug campaign will advance to a full trial. If the judges rule in favor of the prosecution, the case will proceed to the next stage.
