ICI EYES SUBPOENA FOR ROMUALDEZ, CO, AND VILLAR OVER FLOOD CONTROL PROJECTS

The Commission for Infrastructure (ICI) disclosed that it is set to issue subpoenas to Leyte 1st District Representative and former House Speaker Ferdinand Martin Romualdez, former Ako Bicol Party-list Representative Zaldy Co, and Senator Mark Villar in connection with its investigation into alleged irregularities in flood control projects.

ICI Executive Director Brian Hosaka shared the development with members of the media on Wednesday, October 1.

According to Hosaka, the commission may summon Villar, noting his previous role as secretary of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).

“That’s a possibility, yes. Because (Villar) was a former secretary of the DPWH,” Hosaka explained.

Villar served as DPWH Secretary throughout the administration of former President Rodrigo Duterte.

Clarifying Romualdez’s inclusion, Hosaka said the agency had already invited the former House Speaker to appear.

“I believe he will be invited. In fact, I think, according to our secretariat, he was invited already, but I just have to find out if the summons or the subpoena was actually received,” Hosaka said.

Hosaka added that the process of sending subpoenas to Romualdez, Co, and Villar began at the onset of ICI’s hearings on the flood control project controversy.

“I have to check but I think it was during the first part when the commission started its hearings,” he noted.

As of press time, Romualdez, Co, and Villar have yet to release official statements regarding the matter.
